How to offer and promote Pay Later to your clients

Learn how to effectively introduce and promote Pay Later client financing at your firm, including conversation scripts, marketing resources, and compliance best practices.

The firms that get the most out of Pay Later do two things: they bring it up in the moment, and they make it visible so clients know it exists before they ever ask. You do not have to explain financing. You offer it, point clients to the details.

When and where to raise it

Bring it up at intake, include it on your invoices, and mention it any time a client hesitates at the amount. If cost is the reason a client is pausing, this is the moment Pay Later matters most.

To reach clients before that conversation, surface it where they already look. Add it to your firm website, and put it on your homepage so clients can plan ahead before the first consultation. The more visible it is, the more often clients choose it.

A script you can use

You do not need to become an expert on the application. When a client asks how it works, keep it simple:

"We offer a client financing option called Pay Later. It lets you pay your bill in monthly installments while your case keeps moving, and you can check your options in a couple of minutes without affecting your credit. Want me to send you the details?"

Then send them to our client-facing page, which covers the application, rates and terms, credit impact, and managing payments: lawpay.com/affirm.

Answer the four questions clients ask

Keep your answers short and point to the client page for specifics.

  • What will it cost me? You will see your monthly payment, interest, and total up front, before you agree to anything.

  • Will it affect my credit? Checking options is a soft credit check with no impact

  • When is my first payment? Affirm shows you the full schedule, including your first payment, before you agree. It is on the client page.

  • What if I'm not approved? You can pay another way, such as card, debit, or eCheck. Nothing changes for the firm.

What to hand or show the client

  • Our client brochure, to print for your intake area or attach to an email.

  • Our client page at lawpay.com/affirm, which walks clients through the payment flow, including the demo, before they apply.

  • The Affirm Marketing Resources hub, with pre-approved buttons, banners, email and landing-page templates, and social assets.

Stay compliant

Two rules cover almost everything:

  • Use approved materials. Anything client-facing about Pay Later must use pre-approved messaging and materials from Affirm. The one-pager, client page, and toolkit are already approved.

  • Route loan questions to Affirm. Once a client accepts a loan, all repayment questions go to Affirm at affirm.com/help or in the Affirm app. Your staff should never advise on loan terms, payments, or credit.
