Thank you for choosing LawPay! We understand that for legal professionals, time really does equal money. That’s why we created this Onboarding Quickstart guide to help you get going as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Throughout this guide, you’ll find a list of support articles and information to help you unlockLawPay’s fullest potential. Feel free to read each article in order or jump to a specific topic.

User Guide

To access your LawPay account, visit secure.lawpay.com

Username: Your email address

Password: Must include 8 characters, 1 uppercase, 1 lowercase, and 1 number

Here, you’ll find a generalized overview of daily activities and a financial snapshot of invoices, online payments, and total transactions submitted.

  • You’ll also see quick action buttons at the top of the home page that are also available in-app from the “+” symbol in the top right corner.

Payment Pages

The easiest way to process a payment in LawPay is by using your payment page. Just have the client submit the payment—no contacts needed!

Accept credit, debit, and eCheck payments as well as Pay Later where your clients can pay in installments while your firm gets paid the full invoiced amount up front.

EXPAND YOUR PAYMENT OPTIONS

Include secure payment links in your emails and invoices, create payment plans with Scheduled Payments, or offer contactless payments with QR codes.

Contacts

Contacts are a crucial function for the majority of use within LawPay. These articles will allow you to not only add individuals or companies as contacts but also import contact lists into LawPay.

Quick Bills & In-Office Payments

Quickly send payment requests and also view or manage any sent Quick Bill with our Quick Bill Overview.

Similar to sending out a payment link you can collect payments in person.

Invoices

Easily create an invoice for both existing and new contacts. The articles below will help guide you through creating invoices in LawPay.

Time Tracking & Expenses

Our built-in timers make time tracking easy. Use up to three timers to track time for yourself or another user and capture every billable hour for your firm.

Trust Accounting

Trust Accounting allows you to earmark and track trust funds for clients that might have multiple cases with dedicated trust allocations and minimum balances per case.

Schedule

Set up a new recurring charge, and view and manage all existing Scheduled Payments.

Refund

Return funds to your clients’ accounts (client will receive their refund in 2-5 business days).

Settings/Reporting

User Settings Lets create new users & allows you to see current permissions for active users

Deposits are automatically transferred to your bank, and we will automatically debit fees monthly. To prevent any issues, if your bank has an ACH block or positive pay, please contact our support team to acquire our bank ID to clear it with your bank.


Common Decline Response Messages

Card Number Invalid:

Verify card number and try again.

Card Expired:

Ask for another form of payment.

Card CVV Incorrect:

Confirm CVV Code. The client could have been provided another card by their bank with a new code.

Card AVS Rejected:

Billing information does not match the information on file with the card-issuing bank.

Card Declined:

Card-issuing bank has declined the card.

Insufficient Funds:

The funds are not available.

Hold:

Ask for another form of payment.

Card Type Not Accepted:

This usually applies to American Express. Contact LawPay at 800-459-5798 to set up accepted card types.

Limit Exceeded:

The cardholder has exceeded the limit allowed by their card-issuing bank.

Merchant Transaction Count/Amount Exceeded:

Firm has exceeded its volume or transaction limit. Contact LawPay.
